mappathon

OCT19 2014, 12pm-6pm at Culture Hub New York City
https://www.facebook.com/CultureHubNYC

CHiKa will lead this comprehensive introduction to creating projection mapping for beginners. Students will learn how to make animations using various techniques and software, and how to map the three-dimensional surfaces. This workshop is intended for the students who want to learn how to develop projection mapping projects for future events, art installations, and performances.

About the instructor:
CHiKA is an interactive visual artist and an educator. She creates a minimalist geometric visual narrative in sync with the sounds of live music performance in addition to interactive projection mapping installations that explore the relationship between visual, light, sound and public audience. She is a creator of a projection mapping workshop marathon, Mappathon, that teaches projection mapping technique to create site specific installations. She has been a resident researcher at Eyebeam, ITP, New York University and an IAC Teaching and Research Fellow for Vimeo.

‘Narrating Structures’ is an intensive workshop where we introduce projection mapping.  We will look at diverse techniques for the production of audiovisual projects in architectural spaces and objects and also its application in artistic and creative work

The 2 day workshop is divided in 6 sections.

1- Introduction to mentors and presentation of their work in this field.

2- Study of  multiple videomapping projects.

3- Learning multiple techniques and applying them using the different spaces and structures.

4- Presentation by Reuben Sutherland focussing on methods and tips for visual content production.

5- Projection mapping on different surfaces.

6- Creation and presentation of a specific group project

At the end of this workshop you will be able to create various projections simultaneously,  shape light into objects and spaces, project manage and connect with local and international communities.

This workshop is for visual artists, graphic designers, architects and anybody interested.

On the last session on Sunday we will also finish the workshop with a side event with live music and live visuals by the hand of the mentors, invited artists and the participants.

Thanks to the support of Modul8 and Mad Mapper. In our workshops students can later develop their skills further practicing in depth with the softwares and resolve doubts online with us.

Art remixed on Michelangelo’s David – Thesis work

on February 27, Valentina Calabrese  presented a video piece called “Art remixed on Michelangelo’s David “at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. This project was made with MadMapper and the video mapping was achieved by gloWArp.com studio who also was the thesis supervisor

This work is the result of a research started in the contest of the course of “Digital applications for visual art” coordinated and curated by the professor Donato Maniello (gloWArp.com Studio) who also is the supervisor of this dissertation project. The installation, which is entitled “Art Remix on Michelangelo’s David”, is the demonstration of how new technologies can play a fine role for the enhancement of cultural heritage of a nation. To achieve and prove such result, in this project it was used a particular technique of augmented reality called video mapping with the aim of reevaluating the replica in scale of the world famous “David” by Michelangelo, sculpture present in the building of the Academy of Fine Arts of Napoli. The action of reevaluation is not to be considered as an attempt to substitute the peculiar value of the work itself. The aim of the project is to donate a new guise to the sculpture and present a new method of fruition of the work through the use of multimedia installation. The artistic project was directed to the creation of a dedicated event, covering each part of the process of event organization and communication. Part of the project is also a website (www.3david.it), which is useful to examine in depth the whole dissertation project especially for the academics interested in this discipline. Those contents are also available as a printed version

LEVEL is a Project created by  Team IF  and made with MadMapper by our dears friends Cinzia Kamp (who was a teammate of 1024 architecture) & Erminio Serpente .
This installation was presented within the entry hall of the ‘Machine du Moulin Rouge’ in #Paris.

LEVEL from IF on Vimeo.

The project represents the dialogue between space and its limitations. The main support is built using a transparent material superimposed onto another, semi-reflective surface. Allowing the light to be multiplied several times within its depths. The perception of the image changes depending from one’s point of view, and immerses the audience into a world of reflections, fragmenting within the space.
